According to the Portland Police Bureau, at approximately 6:15 pm on April 10, North Precinct and Focused Intervention Team (FIT) officers responded to the 7000 block of N Portsmouth Ave. following a report of a carjacking that had just occurred. Officers contacted the victim, who described the suspect and the stolen vehicle.

Shortly after that, FIT officers located the vehicle in the area of N Peninsular Ave. and N Hunt St., and coordinated resources to take the suspect into custody. During the incident, the stolen vehicle was observed driving recklessly through North Portland, at times exceeding speeds of 115 miles per hour.

The Portland police Air Support Unit maintained continuous aerial surveillance after the suspect abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot, relaying real-time information that enabled North Precinct and FIT officers to locate and safely apprehend him.

Hours later, FIT officers, with assistance from a K9 unit and Multnomah County Parole and Probation, located a firearm in the area where the suspect was taken into custody.
