ICE Out of North Portland marchers take to the streets

On January 30, a nationwide strike to protest ICE violence was called. North Portlanders participated in the day of no school, no work and no shopping.

In the St. Johns neighborhood, many stores were closed for the day in solidarity with the strike. An ICE Out of North Portland march started at 11:30 am at George School with students, families, staff and other community members invited to join. Marchers chanted as they marched down N. Lombard St.

The protests were in response to the back-to-back killings of Renee Nicole Good and Alex Pretti in Minnesota, as well as those who have died in ICE custody. It’s the second call to action for a national strike against the Trump administration’s immigration enforcement actions.
