Frustrated swimmers in North Portland seeking relief from the heat are flocking back to Pier Park Pool. The newly repaired pool reopened July 14 to the delight of kids, parents and adult swimmers, after a major mechanical failure kept it closed for most of the 2024 summer season.

“We love having a pool so close to our house,” said Sarah Van Halder, as she watched her four-year-old frolic and splash in the water. City Councilor Dan Ryan also attended the reopening. “The pain that I felt over Pier Pool’s closure last year is healing,” he said. The District 2 councilor also praised Parks managers Nancy Roth, Andy Amato and staff for putting in extra hours to get Pier Pool open again.
Pier and Peninsula pools will stay open for an extended summer season through Sept. 5.
